1. What is iPassConnect

Answer: iPassConnect is remote access dial-up a software application which replaces the PAL client for "dial-up" users. The iPassConnect client is a simple, easy-to-use desktop client that allows remote users to connect to the Internet through iPass' global network of providers.

2. How are iPass and PAL different ?

Answer: iPass has a two-step login system. Similar to PAL but with easier to use client interfaces.
*First step is the dial-up connection to the iPass network.
*Second step creates a Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnel to Seagate resources.
* You are not routed through Seagate to access external web sites.
* The iPass phone book automatically updates once per week.
* More local phone numbers to call.

A full description of extra features will be available in the iPass User's Guide.

3. How do I get an iPass account ?

Answer: All current remote access users (as of May 14th, 2004) have automatically been given an iPass account. New accounts can be requested through the Seagate Workflow Intranet. Although iPass uses two different logins, only one account request needs to be made. Detailed instructions can be found at http://remotea.it.stsj.seagate.com

4. Do I need the VPN Checkpoint software installed ?

Answer: Yes. While iPass will create the "dial-up" internet connection, you must have Check Point VPN installed to connect to Seagate's internal network. Check Point VPN then "piggy-backs" over the iPass connection to get to Seagate. Your iPass connection will terminate after 20 minutes if you do not sucessfully log in with the Checkpoint client.

5. What is my user name and password ?

Answer: iPass itself uses your Global ID and a unique Password which is emailed to you when your account is created. This password never changes and you can the save the password in the login information settings to avoid typing it in for each session.

Note: The iPass Username and Password is used to create the initial connection to the internet. Afterwards, when you open the Check Point VPN software, you will be prompted for your Check Point VPN login, which is the RSA PIN + tokencode combination.

6. I am having trouble accessing my mail and other Seagate resources after I connect.

Answer: Your DNS settings in Windows may be missing or incorrect. Complete DNS setting instructions
